    ASID Legislative Update

A decision was rendered by the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida on February 4, 2010 in the Locke v. Shore court case. In summary, the Florida interior design statute was upheld and found constitutional, while the current restriction on the title ‘interior designer’ was found unconstitutional. This will now allow for anyone in the state of Florida to call themselves an interior designer.

    BIA Show Recap

The Hawaii Chapter participated in the BIA home show last weekend by hosting a booth. Several of our Industry Partners helped us fill the booth with furniture and accessories to catch the eye and help to advertise what it is we designers do.

Kreative Kamaaina provided part of the back drop by installing a double drapery panel which many thought was a great alternative to the blinds we see so much of now. Be sure to look them up at www.kreativekamaaina.com for more ideas designers use to cover windows but still let the light in when needed.

We were very busy and there was a lot of interest in what ASID is all about.  I think the question I was asked the most was about how we work with a client, and the most common statement from passersby was “I can’t afford a designer”. Although we showed some of our members’ grandest work on the flat panel television provided by Home Automations, if you stopped to talk with us you now know we do a variety of work at all sizes and price levels.
